Confirmation
The Episcopal Church and Confirmation
About Confirmation
Adolescents are moving into adulthood, and beyond a child’s understanding of faith. The faith their parents chose comes into question, and how to live a sacred life becomes their own choice. High school learners in ninth grade and above are encouraged to move from accepting the faith of their mothers and fathers to choosing their own faith path.
Who is God, and who am I? Why am I here? How do I offer my gifts to the world in love? These questions and more are explored in Confirmation. Confirmation services are held in the diocese, with the dates varying each year. The point of the class is not to “get confirmed,” but to explore; there is no pressure to choose confirmation at the end of the class.
For 2022-2023, Confirmation class begins in the Fall. The Rector teaches this class, along with lay leaders. In the past, parents have been asked to participate in a few classes of their own - an opportunity to ask their own faith questions, learn what their children are engaged in, and grow in their own faith.

High School Beyond Confirmation
High school learners who have already been through confirmation are encouraged to participate in the meditation and reflection garden project, and to participate in Christ Church’s other ministries - worship leadership (acolytes, readers) choir, volunteering with the food pantry, etc.
