About Prepared Communion
Every year, second grade learners are invited to join in Prepared Communion, learning about the different aspects of the worship services of the Episcopal church. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, and the need for remote learning, this class was not offered in 2020 and 2021. For 2022, there was an expanded version for second through fifth grade learners. In 2023, five of our parish children lead the service reading scripture, prayers of the people, sharing all they learned about the Holy Eucharist, setting the altar and coming forth, some for the first time to receive the Eucharist.
Prepared Communion is similar to the Roman Catholic First Holy Communion preparation. Some children in the Episcopal Church have received communion from a very early age while others wait until they are in second grade; both ways are common, acceptable, and a choice of the parents.
